Ques : Does medication causes side effect ?

Ans : There is not a single medicine which does not cause side effect. All allopathic medicine causes some side effect. Even medication prescribed for treatment of diabetes, hypertension, heart problem and kidney problem are also not free from side effect. So your main responsibility is to disclose all problems and any known allergy to particular drug and let treating physician to decide which medicine will be appropriate for you. Besides this at time unwanted side effect emerges or rare side effect can also appear for which we as treating Physician can't predict.

Ques : For how long I have to take medicine ?

Ans : It depends on response with medicine. But in first episode of psychosis, depression and mania usually one year duration of treatment is recommended. On relapse one may have to take medicine for two to three years or at times may be life long.
